Christmas Day Blitz

On Christmas Day,  scores of volunteers pack and go door to  door in the neighborhoods distributing sack lunches.  Residents are asked how their Christmas in going.  When families are found with no gifts, gifts for the family are wrapped and delivered.   Each Sack Lunch contains a sandwich, a bag of chips, a cookie and a piece of fruit.  Each sack costs about 75 cents.  We expect to pack and deliver about 1200 sack lunches this year.

Total Cost : $900.00

Kidmo

KIDMO (Kids in Motion) is our new improved children’s

ministry.  This ministry will be reaching over 300 kids each week in  9 neighborhoods.    KIDMO meets on Sunday Nights in most locations from October-April.  Children hear Bible Stories, sing songs, play games and pray.  The cost per site is about $200.00 per year which includes: supplies, fliers, and administrative costs.

Cost for  year :  $1,800.00

Summer Interns

Each summer KUO trains summer interns in urban outreach.  Last summer 4 interns gained hands on experience.

Interns meet each week to learn about poverty, missional living, and  non-profit organizational systems.   Each intern receives a stipend of $100.00 per week; those coming from out- of- town also receive room and board.  Each intern will work 8 weeks during the summer.

Cost per intern $800.00

Laundry Day

One of the greatest need in the food pantries is Laundry Detergent.  We were wondering what would happen if men’s and women’s groups had a Laundry Day.  A Laundry Day is  a way for your group to  supply us with Laundry Soap.   Here is the idea,  collect some empty water bottles, fill them with Laundry  Soap and deliver them to us.  What a blessing that would be for our neighbors in need.

Freezer for food pantries

Freezers are imperative to our pantries.   We often receive large gifts of meat and we need the space to store it.  This spring we expect to receive hundred’s of pounds of beef from the Mennonite Cattle Project.  Freezers can be upright or chest, new or used.

New Games and Toys for "KUO Star" prize

Each week a boy or  a girl are selected to be a KUO Star at Kidmo. They win the award by being excellent.  We are trying to teach children when they are excellent in life they are often rewarded.  Kid of the Week prizes need to be new.  We expect excellence so we want to give excellence.

Soup Carrier & other catering supplies

We will be cooking about 500 meals at Trinity Church and delivering the food to outlying neighborhoods.  We need to  transport the food in  heavy duty catering containers with lids that latch.  Maybe you can pick up items at auctions, rummage sales etc.

Bales of Hay for the Cattle Project

Sixteen-year-old, Alan Mast, attends Howard-Miami Mennonite Church.   His youth group has worked with KUO the past couple of years.  He heard about childhood hunger and is taking action.  He and his youth group have purchased two cows, built a fence and are caring for the cows.  This spring KUO will receive enough beef to  make about 4,000 meals.  Alan is asking farmers if they might have hay to donate to the project.

Sunday Night Meals

In nine Neighborhoods of Hope, Sunday Night meals are served; ensuring that children eat a healthy dinner, enabling them to sleep well and be ready for school on Monday.  The cost to provide one meal is 75 cents.  We expect to serve at least 500 meals each Sunday Night.  You or your group can sponsor one week for $375.00.

Neighborhood Sponsorships

Sponsoring one of our 13 Neighborhoods would be a great gift to the Outreach.  Sponsorships provides all overhead in the neighborhood, staffing for neighborhood, as well as all administrative costs.

                                                                                                                                                                      $7500.00

Baby College

Baby College provides parents with parenting classes and helps children prepare for Kindergarten.  Funding for this nine week course provides breakfast, incentives, prizes, and administrative costs.

                                                                                       $2,000.00 per cycle

December Outreach Budget

What a gift it would be for the Outreach to receive the last month of the year’s budget.  In 2009, $6,000 is what we need each month to keep the outreach running smoothly.

 $6,000
