It is good to return to my hometown of Kokomo to continue my Journey with Christ. If I have not met you before my name is Jeff Newton and I am a part-time pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kokomo. After twenty years in full time pastoral ministry, my family and I have sensed God's call, to return to our roots—–Kokomo. My roots in Kokomo are deep; my great grandfather moved here with his family in 1890's, he was on the Kokomo Police force throughout the 20's-30's. My grandfather worked at Kokomo Glass Shop with his brother who owned it. I have two brothers, a sister and a half sister and brother, one of my brothers, owns Economy Glass, the other works for Kings Plumbing and Heating, my sister owns a house cleaning service and lives in Frankfort. My father, Richard Newton, before moving to North Carolina, worked at Kokomo Sales and owned Hargrove and Newton Plumbing /Heating and my mother, Barbara, worked in the Kokomo High School Bookstore. For 25 years, I have been blessed with a wonderful step-mother Susan (Myers) Newton who grew up in Eastern Howard County in the Howard-Mami Mennonite Church. I grew up in Faith United Methodist Church, graduated in 1975 from Kokomo High School, in 1979 from the University of Indianapolis and in 1989 from Christian Theological Seminary. I married Chris Yohn (from Greentown) in 1977 and we have three sons. I have led United Methodist Churches in Ingalls, Kokomo, Attica and Lowell IN.
My passion is faith based community ministry and organization. Kokomo Urban Outreach is an extension of that desire. Kokomo Urban Outreach is a network of churches, individuals, and organizations who have a heart for hometown missions. It is all about church people and churches moving beyond the walls of the church building into the community, neighborhoods and streets of our city.
I believe for the most part every faith based organization in our community desires to make a difference. I see Kokomo Urban Outreach, as a way coordinating and helping one another to make that difference. I am not here to start another church there are enough churches in town, nor I am here to compete with any other ministries that are already doing good things. God has simply called me, to join God in the work that has begun and to give back to the community that has given me so much to me . My call to ministry is simple I am called to live out the mandate of Jesus (Love God, Love Others) for me little else matters. Let me know how I can help.
Working Together for the Good of Christ and the Community,
Jeff Newton
